A new liturgical center for the parish church of St. Quirinus in Tegernsee consisting of a popular altar, ambo and sedilia made of oak wood.

The altar

He is the center of thanksgiving, which comes to completion in the celebration of the Eucharist. The center to which all other worship celebrations are directed. This table of the Lord stands in the former monastery church of St. Quirinus at the end of a long, ascending path of the faithful. To symbolize this path, I gave the altar the shape of three archways. These shorten in perspective to the center. The theme of the path through the monastery forecourt to the church portal and the nave is further developed in the presbytery by the new popular altar.

The altar has a trinitarian structure: The outer, large form as the Old Testament table of sacrifice, as a solid, immovable block form, stands firmly anchored in the ground on the right side. This is complemented and visually supported by a second table on the left side. The third element in the center has its front vertical turned to the central axis of the nave. It embodies the movement in the way to God, leads the light and shadow in the space diagonals of the presbytery. In the center of its side wall it bears the relic of St. Quirinus.

On the feast day of the church saint, the altar is transformed: before the feast service, the central part is turned in the northern direction so that it is at an angle of 45° to the central axis. At the times of expectation, Lent before Easter and Advent, the altar becomes the austere basic form. All elements are parallel to each other, matter and air space structure each other reciprocally.

The ambo, place of proclamation

It takes up the dialogue between the present and the absent light and air space in the sound exchange with the matter.

The sedilia

Like the altar and ambo, they are designed according to the basic principle of “flowing wood” in the same structure and in solemn simplicity.
