"Sinusknoten" in the waiting area of the heart and thorax surgery department

"Sinusknoten" in the waiting area of the heart and thorax surgery department

This suspended eight-piece tapered metal sculpture has been inspired by the powerful center that controls the heartbeat. The sinus node is located in the right atrium, close to the mouth of the superior vena cava.

The sinus node is the heart's electrical pacemaker. It can only be identified electrically as the area in the heart where the electrical pulse is first detectable. Anatomically speaking, the node is a group of heart muscle cells that have the ability to charge and discharge themselves electrically. The sinus node is influenced by nerves and hormones. It is constantly slowed by the vagus nerve. Adrenalin accelerates the sinus node's discharge frequency.

Dicentra bush

A depictive form opens concentrically on its center. This creates a contour whose spatial form is reminiscent of the botanical "bleeding heart" (dicentra).
