For seventeen years, I have lived and worked as a
freelance sculptor in Munich. Focusing on objects and installation
in public spaces, my starting point is the materiality of things
wherever people live. At the same time, I use the modern media for
research as well as the technical realization and execution of my
designs. My studio is the meeting place for traditional
craftsmanship and cutting-edge virtual simulation technology. |

What changes does art undergo in these circumstances? How
does digital communication influence a concrete space? Can this
space be replaced? Is it interchangeable with any other space?
When the unity of place and material becomes 'immaterial', the
question as to the purpose of real material objects changes. What
purpose do real objects have when they can travel around the globe
in an instant as pixels? Can 'place-less' art make any impact in a
room? What significance does a local workshop or studio have in the
global knowledge society? |

I find it paradoxical that experimental forms
of work are only judged according to their results. Without the
interplay between improvisation and professionality, between daring
and knowledge, something new can only develop by chance. In the
studio, work without 'net' occurs. The creative act is confirmed by
the hands-on occupation with the material. |
