Herbert H. Schultes, born in
1938, studied engineering and design in Munich. He developed the
course of studies in Industrial Design for the Advanced Technical
College in Munich. He became head designer at Siemens/Designafairs
GmbH in 1985; since leaving this position in 2000 he has opened a
studio for design in Inning an Lake Ammer (near Munich). He was
awarded the Federal Prize for the Promotion of Design in 2001.
Dr. Roland Schoeffel studied psychology, computer
science, and anthropology at the University of Kiel. In 1987/88, he
designed the interface for an expert system used by the US Navy. He
is a member of the Britisch Ergonomics Society, the German steering
committee for ergonomics at the DIN, and is convener for ISO
standards on product usability. He advises both German and European
institutions as well as Siemens (since 1992). He has done project
work for the BSH, DB (ICE3), DASA, Opel, Continental, and many
more. He has also developed many technical procedures. His products
have been awarded the Golden Globe, the Siemens Innovation Prize,
and the Bavarian Innovation Prize. He is a director of Designafairs
and has had his own company for Usability Design and Ergonomics
Consulting in Schweitenkirchen (near Munich) since 2002.
